Boris Johnson fined for breaking lockdown rules.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak will both be fined for breaking lockdown rules. It is confirmed that the pair received fine notifications from the Metropolitan police that they would be issued with fixed penalty notices.

Apparently, the spokesman said they had not been told which event they are being fined. The two is said to have attended parties during lockdown, according to the police. Metropolitan police are investigating alleged Covid law-breaking incidents at 12 meetings in Whitehall and Downing Street. As at now more than 50 fines have been issued.

Metropolitan police have said they will not be naming those who receive the fines, but the government promised they would reveal if Mr. Sunak and Boris Johnson were among them.

The labour leader Sir Starmer said  “Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British public. They must both resign.

“The Conservatives are totally unfit to govern. Britain deserves better.”

No 10 would not confirm whether Johnson and Sunak would contest the fines which are likely to be 20 and 50 euros or to pay them straight away.

A spokesperson from No 10 said “The prime minister and chancellor of the Exchequer have today received notification that the Metropolitan police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices. We have no further details, but we will update you again when we do.”

The fines are likely to spark renewed speculations over Johnson’s leadership after he faced a threat from his party over the scandal earlier on this year. Some conventional MPs have said a line would be drawn by allowing the Prime Minister to remain in office if he is found guilty and have broken the law.
