The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has released incriminating videos and photos of Samuel Mugo, the man who was shot dead in Mirema in broad daylight. The 40-year-old was killed by unknown assailants on the afternoon of Monday, May 16, in a well-orchestrated execution that was captured by nearby CCTV cameras. In a lengthy narration, the DCI said since the death of the man, they have been combing through files that now reveal that Mugo was a renowned criminal.
According to the statement, the father of three began conning Kenyans in 2011 and he was the mastermind of a racket that specialised in spiking drinks of revellers and stealing from them. He began his trade by hanging around city ATMs and offering to assist customers who had difficulties withdrawing money from their accounts. He worked with crooked banking officials who would jam the teller machines and once a client inserted the ATM card, Mugo would approach the client offering to assist and he would then go on to rob them.
At one time in 2018, he transferred KSh 700,000 in a single transaction from an account of a woman he was assisting through Pesalink, to one of his fraudulent accounts, leaving a balance of only KSh 700. When the woman learnt that her money had been stolen, she collapsed and died on the spot.
The DCI said “The woman had walked to the ATM booth to check whether a loan she had applied at the bank had been deposited in her account when she met the Muvota. When she learnt of what had happened, she collapsed and died,”.
Being a criminal, Mugo had run-ins with the law in the course of his decade-long criminal life and had even been arrested 30 times. As he got experienced in the conning game, he hired beautiful, expensive-looking women and deployed them as drinks spiking agents at various high-end entertainment spots. So lucrative was his illicit trade that he had recruited over 50 beautiful women into his ‘pishori’ administering trade. The stupefying substance only identified as ‘tamu’ that he used on his victims left many men admitted to hospitals and others dead from an overdose.
Police believe that one of the women he had employed or an accomplice must have given him into criminals who finished him off on the afternoon of Monday.
