Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaks after United lost 4-2 against Leicester city. The match has given an end to the United club’s 29-match unbeaten run on away games. Despite the goals from Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, the Foxes stole the show and won the match with Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka getting to the score sheet. Manchester United manager expressed his frustration against the loss and he had to say this:
“Today, the goals we conceded were disappointing, the timing of them and the way they were conceded. We weren’t good enough in the second balls, the 50/50s, the things that make you earn the right to win a game of football. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it our way. It says everything when David [De Gea] was our best player and we concede four goals. We were not good enough – with and without the ball. You have to run, block and tackle and we didn’t do that enough.”
He pointed out that seeing De Gea as the man of the match is enough reason to worry about. He also noted there was poor defense and lamented “We didn’t deserve a point. We got the lead, Mason showed his quality and then we give them a goal. All the goals we conceded were disappointing in the way we conceded. It wasn’t just the midfield, but we were too easy to play through. Maybe we gave too much space, but that’s the whole team. I agree we didn’t defend well enough. Today, we just didn’t do things well enough.”
Harry Maguire is one of the defenders who seemed overwhelmed and could do much about it. This is because he came from the injury and maybe he hadn’t get well in good shape but Solskjaer Ole Gunnar said it was his decision to play Maguire since he had worked hard in the rehab session. The player seemed ready and admitted that he is indeed a massive player for the club and the team needs him back as soon as possible. He also said that maybe he could have played only first half but as the match went on he got on.
As the club prepares for UEFA Champions league match against Atalanta, Solskjaer said that they need to sort out the mess resulted from today’s game. The attacking talents for the club Anthony Martial and Edison Cavani would have played the game, according to the manager. As he speaks to the club reporter Stewart Gardner he had this to say “You have to bounce back, You have to respond. We’ve had the international break to look at things.
“Everyone’s been away and maybe they came into this confident, because they’ve done well their international teams. But we need to sort this out.
“We have five games until the next break and we’ve got to stick together. There’s no other way to do it. You cannot lose focus; you’ve got to trust yourself, trust your team-mates and make sure that we’re ready on Wednesday night because that will be a difficult game as well.”
Ole Gunnar said he will have to change the tactical set-up and ensure the balance of the team as the team has not been in good form lately. The team has lost many points and that is something they need to look at and change things here and there.
