Two students from the Michuki Technical Training Institute have died after drowning in River Mathioya while taking photos. According to reports, the two were part of a group of students that had gone hiking at Karuuga Waterfalls along River Mathioya in Muranga on Sunday. Residents of Iyego village who witnessed the tragedy revealed that, a female student slipped and fell into the swollen river while she was taking photos.
Seeing the bizarre incident, a male student filled himself energy and attempted to save the girl but he was swept away by the many waters of the swollen river. River Mathioya has filled its capacity following the heavy rains experienced across the country. The drowned students are yet to be identified.
The area residents immediately began the efforts to retrieve the bodies of the two students but at the end of the day they were unsuccessful. The rescue mission is expected to continue
